The Department of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis (http://www.wubio.wustl.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Prokaryotic Biology. We seek an innovative and accomplished scientist whose research addresses fundamental biological processes in bacteria and/or archaea at the molecular level. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to: cell biology, physiology, population genetics, ecology, evolution, systems biology and genomics.
A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Bruce Carlson at Washington University in St. Louis.
The main focus of research in the Carlson lab is to understand information processing by sensory systems, both in mechanistic and evolutionary terms. We are interested in how neural circuits are able to accomplish specific behavioral tasks, as well as how changes in neural circuitry can mediate evolutionary change in behavior. We employ a wide range of techniques, including in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, neuroanatomy and histology, imaging, computational modeling, behavioral observation and playback, and field work.
