Vicki May Given Science Educator Award

The Science Educator Award, given by the Academy of Science in St. Louis, recognizes a distinguished individual or organization on the basis of outstanding contributions to science education or to the public understanding of science, engineering, or technology.

Academy of Science recognizes Vicki May “…for fostering innovation in K-12 education and leading programs designed to improve learning through investigative experiences for students and teachers for more than 20 years both locally and nationally; for facilitating efforts to involve scientists and K-12 educators in classroom instruction, partnering with local institutions such as the Academy of Science, the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Saint Louis Science Center, and the Saint Louis Zoo; and for leading school programs funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Monsanto Fund, Boeing, and MasterCard.

Vicki May is an innovative leader in science education. She exemplifies the Academy mission of promoting the understanding and appreciation of science by overseeing programs, curriculum and courses that improve learning for teachers, students and families through hands-on, investigative teaching methods. Her leadership of unique science outreach programs at Washington University garnered her the responsibility for development of Monsanto’s MySci traveling science van, representing a 6.7 million dollar grant for science education.”
