My research focuses on plant evolution and consequences of polyploidization (whole-genome duplication). I study the genus Camelina in the mustard family and work to understand lipid biosynthesis in the emerging biofuel crop, Camelina sativa. I leverage my collections of wild Camelina species from Europe and Western Asia to address questions on the origins of the domesticated crop, and phylogenetics in the genus. Much of my work bridges analytical chemistry, next-generation sequencing, and climate data to elucidate how seed plants adapt to new environments through changes in seed oil composition. I am currently a PhD student in the Olsen Lab.
